Kukje Gallery en Seúl / SO - IL
Para Kukje Gallery en Seúl, SO - IL ha desarrollado un master plan del "art campus" de la galería en el tejido urbano histórico de Sogyeok-dong, en la parte norte de Seúl.
Las pequeñas callejuelas y casas con patio caracterizan a este barrio, que actualmente está siendo infiltrado por las galerías de nueva construcción, boutiques y cafeterías. Una sola planta diáfana se utiliza para el espacio de arte. La planta baja se utilizará para grandes instalaciones, performances y otras funciones, mientras que los restantes dos pisos son sala de ventas, un espacio de conferencias y áreas de almacenamiento. La circulación se empuja hasta el borde del edificio para mantener la geometría de la caja pura. Un lucernario perimetral deja pasar la luz natural.
Teniendo en cuenta la clara geometría esquemática del cubo demasiado rígido dentro de la estructura histórica, el edificio está envuelto en una permanente "nebulosa"-un velo de cota de malla flexible. La malla de acero inoxidable produce una capa de difusión frente a la masa del edificio real, a través de una combinación de reflexión multidireccional, la apertura y el patrón moaré generada a través de la interacción de sus sombras. Una cualidad adicional del material es que se puede estirar, evitando así los pliegues. Es fuerte pero flexible, y puede envolverse alrededor de las geometrías dadas. Junto con Frente Inc., SO - IL ha desarrollado, diseñado y fabricado esta fachada.
For Kukje Gallery in Seoul, SO — IL has developed a master plan of the gallery’s “art campus” in the historic urban fabric of Sogyeok-dong, a lowrise area in the northern part of Seoul. Small alleyways and courtyard houses characterize this neighborhood, which is currently being infiltrated by newly constructed galleries, boutiques and coffee shops. One of the newly planned buildings within the master plan is a gallery. The structure is a single-story, clear-span art space. The ground floor will be used for large installations, performances and other functions, while the two sublevel floors house a sales room, a lecture space and storage areas. Circulation is pushed out to the edge of the building to maintain the pure geometry of the box. A perimeter skylight admits natural light.
Considering the clear diagrammatic geometry of the white cube too rigid within the historic fabric the building is enveloped in a permanent “nebula”—a pliable chainmail veil. The stainless steel mesh produces a layer of diffusion in front of the actual building mass, through a combination of multidirectional reflection, openness, and the moiré pattern generated through interplay of its shadows. An additional quality of the material is that it can stretch, thus avoiding creasing. It is strong yet pliable, and can easily wrap around crude geometries. Together with Front Inc., SO — IL has developed, engineered and fabricated this one-off façade.
